In may 2016, a new EU regulation came into force: the EU General Data Protection Regulation or GDPR.
Companies who are collecting and processing privacy relevant information (of customers, employees, etc.) must comply with this new regulation within two years time (05.2018).
Failing to comply with the GDPR can have serious consequences: fines up to 20 million Euro’s or 4% of the companies annual revenue could be imposed – therefore relevant enough to get attention on board level!
